If you are considering new carpeting look into wool carpet.
Wool carpet typically lasts up to 25% longer than synthetic carpet, it is naturally resistant to mold mildew and allergens, and its bio-degradable, naturally flame resistant, and naturally sustainable.
I does cost a bit more, but it's worth it!
