Back to: Contraception Special: Contraceptive Injection

Please do not consider this option without discussing all of the risks with your doctor. I took this injection and it gave me weight problems and more worryingly ovarian cysts - a known side effect - resulting in polycystic ovarian syndrome, reversible premature menopause and infertility for 2 years after stopping taking it (on the advice of a private specialist). It is very, effective but it does have side effects. If there is any history of ovarian cancer in your family you should also discuss this with your doctor. Depo stopped me getting pregnant but for 2 years after stopping it also. It ruined my first few years of marriage with nasty side effects including having to have surgery on the cysts. Doctors should be telling you all the risks but they don't.
