Julie Taymor to Be Awarded Royalties for Work on Spider-Man Play

Producers behind hit Broadway show Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark have agreed to pay full royalties to former director Julie Taymor.

Taymor, who was fired from the once much-maligned musical last March (11), maintained she had not been paid in full for her work on the show shehelped to develop - and was still owed fees for helping to create the stage spectacular.

We are very happy to have reached an amicable compromise with the SDC that will allow us all to move on

Executives at the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society lodged herformal complaint against producers in June (11) and Taymor's lawyers pushed forward with a lawsuit on her behalf in November (11), alleging the director's creative rights had also been violated.

However, on Thursday (16Feb12) both parties reached an undisclosed settlement and bosses at 8 Legged Productions agreed to pay Taymor full royalties from the time she signed up in 2009 until the day she departed in 2011.

Producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah Harris of 8 Legged Productions, tell the Associated Press, "We are very happy to have reached an amicable compromise with the SDC that will allow us all to move on".

Additionally, Taymor will be awarded an unspecified sum if the musical, which cost a reported $75 million to stage, recoups its original costs.

The show, which features music by U2 stars Bono and The Edge, opened under new direction in June (11) after a number of setbacks and cast injuries.

Taymor's legal battle with the producers will continue on in a different capacity - the director is still seeking half of all profits derived from the sale, licensing or leasing of the rights to the original Spider-Man book.
