Roisin Conaty

Roisin Conaty

1. Tell us about your experience at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

It was my third solo show so the city feels a bit more like home away from home now. It all goes by in a blur of gigs, late nights, burgers and boxsets.

2. Your new show Lifehunter is featuring at the Soho theatre in November, so what can we expect from this?

It’s a stand up show about looking for happiness and what makes us happy and how bloody exhausting it can be. With laughs.

3. Of all you TV performances, of which there have been many, which has been your favourite?

Oooh well my first TV appearance was Russell Howard’s Good News so that holds a special place for me.

4. You won the Edinburgh Comedy Newcomer Award, how did this make you feel?

It felt lovely but very surreal especially since the show I won it for was about how much of a failure I was.

5. Of all the comedians out there, who do you look up to the most?

Daniel Kitson, Louis CK and Maria Bamford.

6. How old were you when you began to notice you could make people laugh?

8 or 9, I have pretty much the same sense of humour except now I have a slightly better vocabulary.

7. You are soon to feature on Set List on Sky Atlantic, how did this come about?

I did their live shows which are really exciting and then I was lucky enough to get asked to do one of the TV records. Just before you walk on with no material it feels like the worst decision you have ever made then on stage it’s like the feeling of your first gig absolutely electric.

8. What is next for you?

I am performing Lifehunter at the Soho Theatre from the 6th-10th November which I am really looking forward to. I am also doing some other tour dates and TV and Radio and hopefully getting a dog.

Roisin Conaty will be performing Lifehunter at the Soho Theatre from 6th – 10th November. For tickets visit the solo theatre website.
