Medic to Medic

With Christmas around the corner, this year has flown by – it seems like the Jubilee weekend and the Olympics were only a few weeks ago! However, we must remember that the year of celebration is soon over and 2013 is about to begin and even though 2013 may not promise the same exciting festivities of 2012 (other than a much anticipated royal baby!) but we can still make it a year to remember!
Every January, many participate in the popular tradition of making a New Years resolution. Hundreds of thousands of promises are made to improve oneself or ones life with the most common ones being to quit smoking, eat more healthily, get fit and lose weight. However, realistically, New Years resolutions last as long as Christmas Day and once the daily routine sets in again after the seasonal period, it can be extremely difficult to keep the promises made. So why not do something for yourself this year but also for others, to keep you motivated!
Medic to Medic aim to support the training of healthcare workers in Malawi. They support them throughout their education, so that they can perform to the best of their ability. There is a worldwide shortage of health workers and in Malawi there are only 265 doctors in total! This equates to 1 doctor for every 50,000 people. Sponsors are able to communicate with their student in Malawi, where they receive biannual updates throughout their course and can provide their student with support. This year Medic to Medic have come up with a great way for you to remain committed to keeping fit. By joining their Athletics club, it undoubtedly gives you a greater incentive to keep fit throughout 2013.
Anyone can join the Athletics club by taking part in a sporting event and fundraising for Medic to Medic. They will receive a membership card, a customized sports T-shirt and fundraising support from the team before the event. Medic to Medic will also have an archive of past year’s membership on its website so there will be a permanent record of their support. This could be of particular interest to people who include fundraising on their CV’s, as it would allow potential employers or universities to independently verify their activities. Now if that is not an incentive to keep those promises in 2013, we don’t know what is!
