Nick Walkers Street Art

Nick Walker, one of the world’s leading street artists, has overnight transformed the walls of Victoria Street, London into a beautiful work of art in celebration of The New Thinker’s Index - a unique, interactive digital experience aims to challenge the way people think.

The Bristol born, innovative graffiti artist, known for creations including Le CoranCan and The Morning After, created the final design by drawing on opinions shared with him by the general public via Facebook on what inspires them to think in new ways.  He then worked through the night to create something that would inspire busy city workers on their journey into work, whilst complementing the surrounding landscape of skyscrapers, concrete, glass and some of London’s most iconic buildings that are found in the heart of the city.

Revealed this morning, the final masterpiece ‘Midnight Art’ depicts a 20ft mural of a man with a child on his back, pointing towards a selection of creatively painted representations of what the public communicated to him. The response that sparked Walker’s imagination and provided the foundation of the artwork stated ‘A man should have his feet firmly planted in his own country, but his eyes should survey the world’

Walker talks about his involvement in the challenge, “Everyday events, no matter how grand, simple or small inspire me and therefore my work, but The New Thinker’s Index challenged me to channel other people’s inspirations through my creations.  The outcome of which was ‘Midnight Art’.  I hope a glimpse of this piece will inspire others to challenge the workings of their mind and the way they perceive the world around them, whilst on their regular route into work.”

The mural is located at 123 Victoria Street, an icon of 60s design which is currently under redevelopment by Land Securities as part of its £2bn transformation of Victoria. Colette O'Shea, Head of Development, London Portfolio, Land Securities, commented, “We are thrilled that 123 Victoria Street has become the canvas for Nick Walker’s latest installation.  Our commitment to public art is integral to creating vibrant destinations, and this is exactly what we’re doing in Victoria.  This part of the West End is changing, and our 10 year vision will see the creation of vibrant new retail, residential, office and public space.  Luxury brand Jimmy Choo will move its global headquarters to 123 Victoria Street this year, which marks another important milestone in Victoria’s transformation into one of London’s most creative and dynamic quarters.”

Nick Walker joins a host of high profile personalities from a variety of disciplines who have put their minds to the test to launch the New Thinker’s Index for Hyundai including models Lily Cole and Jodie Kidd, actors Ralph Fiennes and Kevin Spacey and singing sensations Tom Jones and Jessie J.  The series of short films look at new thinking and an online test enables you to compare the way your mind works to great thinkers of the past; famous sports stars, music legends and actors of the present.  To see the films and take the test visit www.newthinking.uk.msn.com.
