SARAH JESSICA PARKER: 'SATC COULDN'T COMPETE WITH DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES' SARAH JESSICA PARKER is grateful her US show SEX AND THE CITY ended when it did - because it would have been crushed in the ratings war by successor DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. Despite her programme's colossal success, Parker insists the ABC show about the racy happenings along Wysteria Lane has become a bigger and better network draw. She tells British magazine Cosmopolitan, "SATC would never have been able to compete with them. We would have been squashed by them, so the timing turned out to be lucky."Meanwhile in related news Desperate Housewives actress FELICITY HUFFMAN has been selected to receive the breakthrough performance award at California's 17th annual Palm Springs Film Festival for her turn in sex-change movie TRANSAMERICA. JAKE GYLLENHAAL, TERRENCE HOWARD, CHARLIZE THERON, SHIRLEY MacLAINE, DAVID CRONENBERG and MICHAEL LONDON will also be feted at the 7 January (06) awards gala. Emmy-winning DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star Huffman has already received the National Board of Reviews's actress prize and a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the film.
