50 Cent Wins Songwriter Of The Year Award

50 Cent has been named 'songwriter of the year' by top industry names.The US rap star was awarded the coveted title by the respected American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) at a star-studded ceremony on Monday (22.05.06).The 'gangster' lyricist raps about enjoying a 'pimp' lifestyle and growing up in the 'hood'. Last year his album 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin'' - a soundtrack to his debut film of the same title - sold 7.5 million copies.Other artists to pick up top Pop Music Awards included Annie Lennox, Green Day and Mariah Carey.Lennox was given the Founders Award for her inspirational contributions to music as a solo artist and with The Eurhythmics.ASCAP president Marilyn Bergman said: "Annie Lennox is one of the finest musical voices of our time - unlike any other, uncompromising and unpredictable."
