Leading bookmaker Sky Bet has installed BBC bad boy Russell Brand as an outside bet at 100/1 to fill David Tennant’s Doctor Who shoes. Following Tennant’s announcement of his departure at the National TV Awards last night, Sky Bet have compiled odds on who will continue the character’s legacy with Brand at the bottom of the pile accompanied by BBC colleague Jonathan Ross, also at 100/1.

James Nesbitt is the bookie’s favourite to take on the tardis at 7/2 with Paterson Joseph in line to be the first black actor to take on the role at 4/1.

Helen Jacob, Sky Bet’s Head of PR, said: “Russell Brand is suitably camp, eccentric and knows how to wear a scarf well. Had he not blotted his copy book with the BBC he would have been perfect for Doctor Who and the tardis would have come in handy when he needed to make a quick exit!”
