Anne Heche gives her son as much love as possible over the phone.
The Canada-based actress revealed having a long-distance relationship with her five-year-old son Homer - who lives primarily with his father, Heche's estranged husband Coley Laffoon in Los Angeles - is heart-breaking.
She said: "It's hard. You have got to open up your heart as if he is right in front of you."
The 'Men in Trees' star - who is currently dating her co-star James Tupper - flies to Los Angeles twice a month to be with her son, who in turn makes the trip to see her fortnightly.
She said: "Homer flies a lot, twice a month to see me."
Heche - who is embroiled in a bitter court battle with Laffoon, who filed for divorce this February - says despite her recent troubles she couldn't be happier living in a log cabin in Vancouver with her new love.
The 38-year-old actress told US TV show 'The View': "I'm so happy. But, I don't think anybody says, 'Yay, divorce. That was a lot of fun.' "
