Newton Hospitalised in Singapore

Veteran Australian entertainer Bert Newton has been hospitalised in Singapore amid fears he has contracted pneumonia again.

The 73 year old, who has been appearing in a stage production of Wicked, was forced out of the show last summer (11) after he was struck down with the deadly lung condition.

He has now been sidelined again after developing a heavy cold, and he was admitted to a medical facility to receive treatment.

Early reports suggested he had been hospitalised for heart surgery, buthe dismissed the rumours in a statement.

Newton says, "I'll be back fighting fit if not at the weekend, I'll on stage by Tuesday. Because of the fact I had pneumonia last June, I need to be extra careful when a cold strikes to ensure it doesn't become anything more serious".
