Billy Joel Still Puzzled About Record Ban....
Billy Joel still can't understand why his Only The Good Die Young hit was so controversial - but he's glad certain religious groups tried to boycott it.
The scandal turned the late-1970s tune into a big hit in America, prompting the rocker to send a letter to one leading group which tried to ban the record, asking officials to keep taking offence at his lyrics.
But he's still mystified over the fuss.
He says, "I wanted to write a song about a guy trying to seduce a Catholic girl. I don't know what all the fuss was about, because she stayed chaste.
"It got banned at Seton Hall University radio, and some archdiocese in St.
Louis said people shouldn't buy the record. They went out and bought it in droves.
"I remember writing a letter saying, 'Please ban my next record. Thank you very much. Billy Joel.'"
