Did you know Jan Kounen's work before working on this project ?Yes, I had heard of a film called Dobermann which I later Watched before beginning Muraya. Did you know Mike Blueberry's comics ?
No, I had never heard of them. The first time I saw them was when they were shown to me at the Sunset Marquis in Hollywood at our first meeting. What was you main motivation to work on this project ?
Having made a very boring western called Wyatt Earp, I was hoping to do better with Muraya. Were you surprised to see a frenchman directing a western movie ?
Yes, I was surprised, but also curious. I'm always interested in a different approach to a common subject such as western. How would you qualify this movie ? Can we compare it to any other film ?
Not having seen it yet, I really have no idea. I doubt wether any comparison would have any meaning. This a very different approach to the western genre thas has ever been done before. What do you think about Jan Kounen as a director and as a human being ?
As a director I found him very accessible, very collaborative, always willing to indulge an idea and a man with a clear vision of a story he wanted to tell that took five years to get on it's feet. As a human being I feel Jan is a complex man as am I, which is perhaps the reason the powers of the universe brought us together. What are your best and your worst memories about the shooting ?
My best memory is of all the people who worked so hard, and of all of the interesting locations where we traveled while filming. All the way accross Mexico, Spain and in the studio in Paris. I'm a different person than I was when I started the film. I don't have any bad memories of the film.
