Brandon Routh is to star in a 'Superman Returns' sequel. The actor - who made his debut as the Man of Steel in this year's hit film - will team up with director Bryan Singer for a second superhero adventure due out in 2009.He told E! Online: "They've publicised that Bryan had finalised his deal, which was the lynchpin in the whole talk about a sequel. So everything looks to be heading that way." The 28-year-old star - who inherited the legendary role from the late Christopher Reeve - admits he is very "excited" about the project and is determined to emulate Reeve's acclaimed portrayal of Superman. He said: "I'm certainly excited to do another one. I looked at Christopher Reeve's performance because he was my Superman, so I took that energy and the spirit that he has from the character, because it was important for audiences to make that transition from watching him to watching this new person."Routh is confident the new film can compete with the host of other superhero sequels coming out.'Spider-Man 3' and the new Batman adventure 'The Dark Knight' are both expected to hit cinema screens in the summer of 2008.
