Bryan Ferry is to receive a BMI Icon Award.
The former Roxy Music frontman will be honoured by the US performing rights organisation at a ceremony in London in October.
The ceremony recognises the European and Jamaican songwriters and publishers of the past year's most-played Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) songs on American radio and television.
Organisers say that the Icon award is given to BMI songwriters who have bestowed "a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."
Previous winners of the gong have included The Kinks frontman Ray Davies, the Dee Gees, Dolly Parton and Isaac Hayes, who died on Sunday (10.08.08).
Bryan will receive the accolade at London's Dorchester Hotel on October 7 in recognition of his work over the last three decades, both as a member of Roxy Music and as a solo artist.
His most recent album, 'Dylanesque', was released last year.
