Christian Bale has described the late Heath Ledger as "intense but laid back".
The Welsh actor stars as Batman alongside Heath's Joker in the forthcoming 'The Dark Knight' and says that although his performance was "intense", Heath was "mellow" off camera.
He told Details magazine: "He was incredibly intense in his performance but incredibly mellow and laid-back."
Talking about Heath's performance, Christian said: "Certainly there was a great anarchist streak to it - just getting dirtier than anybody's envisioned the Joker before. He had power because he has no limits - absolutely nothing to lose."
Heath died of an accidental drugs overdose in January.
Christian says he hopes the movie will be a fitting tribute to the late actor.
He added: "Naturally it was something I wanted to share with him - and expected to do so. And I can't do anything else but hope that it will be an absolutely appropriate celebration of his work."
