The Balinese fortune teller portrayed by actor Hadi Subiyanto in Julia Roberts' new movie Eat Pray Love has been hospitalized in Indonesia.

The movie is a big screen adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's 2006 travel memoir, Eat, Pray, Love One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia, with Roberts starring as the author.

The medic says the 96 year old is "exhausted by all of this attention", adding, "It may have affected his health".

Palm reader Ketut Liyer, played by Subiyanto, is featured heavily in Gilbert's book, providing her with guidance during her global trek, and he has become a local celebrity and tourist attraction in the town of Ubud.

But the added attention from the release of the Hollywood film has caused his health to take a turn for the worse and he was admitted to a medical center last weekend (07-08Aug10).

Liyer was treated for a heart ailment but underwent surgery on Monday (09Aug10) to deal with an existing prostate problem, his doctor Wayan Gede Wirawan tells the Associated Press.

The medic says the 96 year old is "exhausted by all of this attention", adding, "It may have affected his health".

Wirawan claims Liyer is now recovering well from the operation and is expected to remain under doctors' care for a week.
