Ellie Goulding has blamed her busy schedule for her split from dubstep star Skrillex, calling the break-up "really sad" but insisting they remain friends.
He's one of my best mates, it's a shame. He is a really beautiful person, he's the nicest human being. He's very kind and we connect. He's a really wonderful person.
It emerged last month that the Lights hitmaker had called off her six-month relationship with the musician, real name Sonny Moore.
Goulding, who has since been linked to War Horse actor Jeremy Irvine, now admits the break-up was painful, but amicable.
She tells British newspaper The Sun, "It's literally because we didn't see each other enough. It's really sad. He's one of my best mates, it's a shame. He is a really beautiful person, he's the nicest human being. He's very kind and we connect. He's a really wonderful person. It's good just to even have him as a mate".
The singer is even planning to work with the Grammy-winning DJ again, after they recorded a track called Bittersweet for The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn - Part Two.
She adds, "(We) are good mates, we're even going to make music together next year. Our own little project which will be released. Everyone loves the Twilight track. We work really well together, we've found we really do connect in that way. It will be something a bit more electronic, it won't be like my music".
