The organisers of the upcoming Emmy Awards have scrapped plans to pre-record a number of the presentations.

Bosses at the Academy of Television Arts And Sciences came under fire from Hollywood unions after they announced that eight of the awards would be handed out prior to the September (09) ceremony and the taped acceptances inserted into the show.

But executives at the organization have now backtracked on the decision, insisting all 28 prizes will be presented live during the event.

Academy chairman John Shaffner says in a statement, "(The decision had been) made to mend relationships within the television community. Our goal is to celebrate the year in television, honor excellence and this year's great achievements with the support of our industry colleagues and our telecast partner CBS."

The two major Hollywood unions, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), have welcomed the announcement.

The ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on 20 September (09) and will be hosted by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.
