Green Hornet flies stright to top of box office

Actor Seth Rogen's superhero film The Green Hornet stung competition at the US box office after taking profits of $34 million (£22.7m) this weekend.

Director Michael Gondry's big screen adaptation about a richboy-turned masked vigilantr opened at the top spot according to studio estimates released on Sunday.

Ron Howard's new comedy The Dilemma, starring Kevin James and Vince Vaughn opened at number 2 with $17.4 million (£11.6m) in earnings.

The Coen brother's western True Grit slipped from one to three with $11.2 million (£7.5m)

The top five are made up by The King's Speech and Darren Aronofsky's ballet thriller Black Swan, with $9.1 million (£6.1m) and $8.1 million (£5.4m) respectively.
