Hairspray Leads The Way At Theatregoers' Choice Awards....

The London stage adaptation of Hairspray has swept the board at the British Theatregoers' Choice Awards, winning a record seven prizes.The hit show picked up the Best New Musical gong, while its stars Leanne Jones and Michael Ball scooped awards for Best Musical Actress and Best Musical Actor for their roles as Tracy Turnblad and the cross-dressing Edna Turnblad respectively.Fellow castmates Tracie Bennett and Ben James-Ellis were also honoured for their roles in the show, after being named in the supporting musical actor categories.

And Jack O'Brien was lauded as Best Director, while Jerry Mitchell received the Best Choreographer accolade.Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe's West End debut in Equus also proved to be a big winner - the production won three awards including Best Play Revival and Best Newcomer for the Harry Potter star.The stage version of Pedro Almodovar's All About My Mother at the capital's Old Vic Theatre - where Kevin Spacey is artistic director - took two awards: Best New Play and Best Supporting Actress in a Play for Dame Diana Rigg's role in the Samuel Adamson adaptation.The other big-name winners were Sir Ian McKellen, who took Best Actor in a Play for King Lear, and Dame Maggie Smith, who won Best Actress in a Play for The Lady from Dubuque.
