Clinton Hostage-taker Detained For Mental Exam....

A judge has ordered a mental evaluation of the man accused of taking hostages at U.S. senator Hillary Clinton's campaign office on Friday (30Nov07).Leeland Eisenberg was arraigned on Monday (03Dec07) with bail set at $500,000 (£250,000) on charges of kidnapping, criminal threatening and false reports of an explosive.The 46-year-old is alleged to have taken five workers hostage at Clinton's office in Rochester, New Hampshire, after his demands for an audience with the politician were denied.

He is also accused of threatening staff by claiming to have an explosive device strapped to his chest.Eisenberg will now face extensive mental health checks after a psychological assessment was ordered by Rochester District Court Judge Daniel Cappiello.Defence lawyer Randy Hawkes told the court that Eisenberg regretted the disruption and was grateful that police resisted using firearms when detaining him.
