No stage return for Laurie

House star Hugh Laurie has vowed never to return to the stage - after fearing he was losing his mind performing in a play.

The British actor has only ever appeared in one stage production, Gasping in London's West End in the 1990s.

But he was driven to despair reciting the same lines night after night - and made a solemn promise not to put himself through the experience again.

He says, "I couldn't do it again. I actually started to have out-of-body experiences and it was really very frightening. I would sort of lean mybody and float around the upper circle and sit next to people and eat their crisps. It was really strange.

"It was actually quite frightening. I really did think I was losing my mind. I just thought this is what stage actors do - this is something youhave to go through. It isn't normal - it can't be normal".
