Jason Bateman's awful acting

5 months ago 04th Jul 13:30

Jason Bateman says being an actor is "awful".

The 'Arrested Development' star says it is one of the worst professions to have because it is difficult to impress people in order to further your career.

He told website Parade.com: Being an actor is really an awful way to make a living because you truly can't help yourself. In any other profession, you can kind of stay at the office an extra few hours and impress the boss. But as an actor, you kind of have to wait for the phone to ring, so it is frustrating at times."

Former child-star Jason, 39, says he made a lot of mistakes in his 20s because he felt he had missed out on his teen years - though he confessed to being glad to mess up out of the spot light.

He added: "I wasn't a guy who stayed out of trouble growing up. I'm glad I'm not making those mistakes today. Fortunately, celebrity journalism was not around when I was staying out late.

"I was really trying to catch up because I had worked so much when I was a little kid and didn't get to go to college. My 20s were my fraternity life, and I got away with it. I made a bunch of bad decisions and didn't end up getting hurt or getting arrested.

"I've certainly not been without my trying moments, but I don't have to battle the instinct to be a screw-up. I'm not drawn to go rob liquor stores or have huge drug problems or go serve a few weeks in jail.
