Horton Hears A Who! Storms U.K. Box Office....

Jim Carrey's new animated movie Horton Hears A Who! has stomped its way to the top of the U.K. box office.

The family film, in which Carrey voices an elephant, debuted atop the chart with takings of $5.88 million (£2.94 million).

The Spiderwick Chronicles also scored a big opener with profits of $5 million (£2.5 million) at number two, while Step Up 2 The Streets and Meet The Spartans also profited from the Easter holiday weekend - both were new entries at three and four respectively.

Last week's biggest earner 10,000 B.C. fell to fifth place.
