Katy Perry is set to be honored by a top U.S. suicide prevention organization for her efforts championing gay rights.

The I Kissed a Girl hitmaker has long backed The Trevor Project, a non-profit group dedicated to crisis support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youngsters, and bosses have revealed she is the latest recipient of their Hero Award.

Perry will receive the prize at a Hollywood gala, directed by Adam Shankman, on 2 December.

Lady Gaga, Daniel Radcliffe and Susan Sarandon have previously been honored with the award.
