Keanu Reeves - Sandra Bullock The Affair Continues

24-06-2006 09:30

Meanwhile, Sandra has used her self-deprecating humour to full effect and chose to go down the rom-com route, with roles in ‘While You Were Sleeping’, ‘Miss Congeniality’ and ‘Two Weeks Notice’.

However, Sandra has recently made a determined effort to escape the girl next door stereotype and tackled the demanding role of a politician’s wife on the verge of a nervous breakdown in the Oscar winning movie ‘Crash’.. critics called it the best work of her career.

The 41-year-old wed TV show presenter Jesse James last summer, after he wooed her .. ironically - through a courtship of letters. Sandra admits she never expected to get hitched, but changed her mind when Jesse was involved in a serious accident.

She said: "I thought ‘Ok, my father was run over by a bulldozer, my mother died of cancer, I need to help him.’ I knew then I was in it for the long haul. His accident was a huge deciding factor for me."

The eternal tomboy .. who has romanced Matthew McConaughey and Tate Donovan - revealed marriage has allowed her to explore her feminine side.

She said: "I realised I had always longed to be a girl and I finally let it emerge. I didn’t lose control, I feel empowered. I can cook one day and tomorrow go back to work." She is also looking forward to starting a family and says her life would be complete with a baby. "It would be great. Getting pregnant would change everything", she admitted.

But for the moment Sandra continues to concentrate on her career and when she heard about a small art film 7,000 miles away in Korea it seemed perfect .. and as fate would have it the same script also impressed a certain old co-star.

In the film, Keanu is living in 2004 while Sandra is in 2006. The pair .. who have separately rented the same beautiful Lake Michigan house - find themselves falling in love across the time gap.

Sandra explained: "Like most good things it appeared out of nowhere. I was looking for a love story and when I read it I was lost in the scenario. I met the director and he said Keanu was also interested. It was fate."

Keanu revealed it was the film’s unusual format that intrigued him.

He said: "I’m not the hero and she is not the damsel in distress. It’s not about two people seeking something to make themselves whole. It’s about two people who discover they can create something new."

While the pair valiantly attempt to rekindle their on-screen chemistry, the film has been a flop in the US, with critics branding it ‘confusing’ and ‘tedious’. The film has just opened in the UK and a similar savaging is expected.

Sandra’s next big screen venture sees her play author Harper Lee in ‘Infamous’.

Keanu is set to revert to the familiar action-hero role, to play a government spy in futuristic thriller ‘A Scanner Darkly’.

But he reveals he is not planning to stick to the winning tough-guy formula. He recently performed Hamlet on stage in Canada .. to mixed reviews - but refuses to give up. The Canadian is now eyeing up another Shakespeare tragedy .. Macbeth. "Could I do Macbeth with the Scottish accent?" he wonders. "I would certainly try if we could come to Scotland and film it. Does anybody want to do this with me I’m throwing this out to the universe."

One wonders if Sandra will join the queue to play Lady Macbeth...
