‘Manage Anorexia’ supporter Kenneth Tong has claimed that his Twitter campaign was a hoax.
The ex-Big Brother contestant and self titled playboy started a Twitter campaign proclaiming that he supported ‘Managed Anorexia’ because he believed that everyone should be a size zero.
After receiving a backlash of comments from famous faces such as Example, Rihanna, The Saturdays, Simon Cowell, Gordon Ramsey and Katy Perry, as well as a lot of negative press, Tong has announced that his campaign was all a big publicity stunt.
Tong claims that he pulled the stunt after a conversation with a friend about the powers of the internet, especially Twitter.
Although Tong received a lot of criticism he did reach out to many people via the mirco-blogging site who thought he was inspirational, and took his unhealthy advice onboard.
Last night Tong Tweeted: “I think it is time for me to come clean. The whole size zero thing is a hoax.”
He added: “It is a mental illness. It cannot be managed. To all the people I have offended as part of this scientific experiment, I would like to apologize to you.”
Tong, who called the hoax a ‘marketing case study’, now claims that he will donate a sizable amount to Beat: the leading UK charity for people with eating disorders and their families.
He is also auctioning his iPod on eBay, and claims that the winning amount will be donated to the same charity.
