Row Erupts As China Puts Homegrown Movies Before Hollywood.... Anger is mounting among Chinese cinema-goers after the government postponed releasing a string of Hollywood blockbusters including Miami Vice in favour of homegrown films. The country's Ministry of Culture put back the Michael Mann movie - starring Chinese actress Gong Li - to next month (Nov06) to promote the 'October Golden Autumn Excellent Domestic Film Exhibition Month'. The festival celebrates China's revolutionary past and heroic figures through 10 local films.Tong Gang, director of the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, says, "These 10 movies variously involve weighty revolutionary and historical material, modern city life, heroic figures and children's themes. "The diversity showcases the rich, colourful and true-to-life state of domestic films."Other US films affected by the festival include Oliver Stone's World Trade Center, which won't open in Chinese cinemas until 11 November (06).
