Matt Bomer and his partner are set to be honoured with the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network's Inspiration Award.
The Magic Mike star and his boyfriend, celebrity publicist Simon Halls, will be feted at the organisation's annual GLSEN Respect Awards in Los Angeles in October for their "meaningful contributions toward creating a world where every child learns to respect and accept all people".
Bomer confirmed he is gay in February, when he publicly acknowledged Halls and their three children while accepting an award for HIV-AIDS activism, and he recently voiced his hope that his big step would encourage others to make a difference in the gay community by following suit.
He said, "They (young people) need saving, certainly in this day and age as much as ever - no matter how much we think we've progressed...
"What we really have to do is stop the adjective before the job title - whether it's 'black actor,' a 'gay actor' or 'anything actor'.
"Everybody thinks that equality comes from identifying people, and that's not where equality comes from."
"Equality comes from treating everybody the same regardless of who they are... It's time to move out of 1992".
