Matt Damon Turned Down Captain Kirk

J.J Abrams has revealed that Matt Damon turned down the role of Captain Kirk.

The Lost creator has claimed that the Bourne actor was his first choice to take over the role of Kirk, made famous by William Shatner.

However the actor turned down his offer.

In an interview with Life Abrams said: "I actually approached Matt and we had some discussions, but everything happens for a reason." 

"On the one hand, it would have been great to work with Matt - but at the end of the day, it was such a better move to cast the movie with unknowns."

In the end the director went on to cast the little known Chris Pine in the role of Kirk and Heroes favourite Zachary Qunito as Spock.

The film received it's UK premiere last night and is released 8th May.
