McCready Sues Mum Over Enquirer Interview

Country star Mindy Mccready has filed a lawsuit against her mother and the publishers of the National Enquirer over published reports suggesting she's an unfit mother.

The singer has been fighting her mother, Gayle Inge, for custody of her five-year-old son Zander ever since she was released from prison after serving time for a probation violation in 2008.

Earlier this month (Jun11), the National Enquirer published an interview with Inge, in which Zander's grandmother claimed his mother had only seen him once in the past 12 months.

Inge also alleged her daughter had missed a custody hearing so she could avoid having to take a drug test.

In her suit, McCready insists the publication did not check facts and "attacks the morality and character" of the singer, who is asking for punitive damages.

A statement from McCready reads, "What is shameful and heartbreaking is the unhealthy relationship I have endured with my mom over my lifetime.

"In all honesty, I?m saddened it has come to this; but this is not a one-time, single event... It has just got to stop, for me and my son."
