Shrek has moved Harry Potter from the top of the UK box office in the debut week for "Shrek 2".
The Dreamworks production pulled in over 16 million pounds over the weekend, notes Reuters today.
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was in second place, having pulled in 1.2 million between Friday and Sunday to take its overall British haul to almost 42 million pounds.
American high school comedy "Mean Girls" also fell a place to third, taking 594,000 pounds, just above apocalyptic film "The Day After Tomorrow".
New entry "Godsend", starring Robert De Niro as a genetic scientist, reached fifth place.
"The Ladykillers", a remake of the classic 1955 Ealing comedy, fell two places to sixth.
The film, starring Tom Hanks, follows the plot of a gang of crooks carrying out a massive heist with the only hitch being the little old landlady of the house they are staying in.
