Politicians in Nigeria are calling for a one-year ban on local filmmaking after
one of the country's actresses was embroiled in a sex tape scandal.
The unnamed woman has gone into hiding after appearing in the eight-minute
amateur sex video.
The actress and her boyfriend appear naked in the short film, which was
recorded for private use on a mobile phone. But the footage has been leaked to a mobile phone network. Now the government of Nigeria's predominantly Muslim state of Kano has called
for a 12 month cessation of the local movie industry in an attempt to clean it
up.The state's Filmmakers Association has already expelled 17 of its members for
suspected involvement in "immoral acts such as drunkenness and fornication",
even though they were not connected to the sex video.
