Ozzy's Genetics Test Will Cost $40,000, Offer Clues About Substance Abuse

Research into Ozzy Osbourne's DNA will cost genetics experts in Massachusetts $40,000 (£26,600) and take them three months to map out.

Scientists at DNA-testing company Knome have taken a blood sample from the heavy rocker, who has survived decades of abusing drugs and alcohol.

They hope to discover how some people can survive extreme substance abuse, while others can't.

Knome researchers will partner with scientists at St. Louis, Missouri-based firm Cofactor Genomics.

Now sober, Osbourne estimates he took drugs and used alcohol to excess for over 40 years.

In his new health advice column for Britain's Sunday Times newspaper, Osbourne writes, "By all accounts, I'm a medical miracle."
