Phillip Schofield has taken a break from presenting 'This Morning' to be with his dying father. The 46-year-old star has missed two of the daily shows this week and is not due back until next week at the earliest. Phillip's 72-year-old father Bryan was hospitalised earlier this year with a mystery illness before returning home to Oxfordshire in February.Bryan's hospital stay saw the presenter make regular dashes to his dad's bedside between filming 'Dancing on Ice', which he co-hosted with Holly Willoughby, and sleeping on a camp bed at the hospital.However, father-of-two Phillip has now decided to take a complete break from his professional commitments to be with Bryan.A friend of the presenter said: "It is so heartbreaking to see. Phillip and Bryan are very close."Phillip's 'This Morning' co-host Fern Britton was joined by 'Torchwood' actor John Barrowman to present the popular ITV show yesterday (29.04.08).It is unknown whether Phillip will still be able to host the British Soap Awards alongside Fern in London next Wednesday (07.05.08). If he does, it will be the duo's third stint at presenting the glitzy bash that will see some of the biggest names in television battle it out for the prestigious prizes.
