Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince has cast a spell worldwide - taking in more than $100 million (£66 million) in its first day of release.
The film hit theatres on Wednesday (15Jul09) and midnight screenings alone in the U.S. scooped $22.2 million (£14.8 million), scoring the best opening night gross of all time.
The sixth movie in the boy wizard franchise saw U.S. takings almost triple for the whole day, garnering $58.2 million (£38.8 million).
The latest instalment, which stars Daniel Radcliffe as Potter, took $45.9 million (£30.6 million) from the rest of the world - taking its first day opening to $104 million (£69 million).
The film also scored the third-highest opening day record of all time in the U.K. and Australia, grossing $7.6 million (£5 million) and $4.4. million £2.9 million) respectively.
