Red Hot Chili Peppers Split

3 months ago 23rd May 13:15

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have disbanded.

The band have decided to split for at least a year to give each of the members time to concentrate on their lives away from the group.

Lead singer Anthony Kiedis explained the band took the decision because their last album, 'Stadium Arcadium', took so long to complete.

He said: "We're disbanded for the moment. We actually took a very long time to make the 'Stadium Arcadium' record, it took forever. It was really a gruelling, long haul and it followed two other very long hauls, 'Californication' and 'By the Way'."

The singer said the band members were "emotionally and mentally zapped" after recording took its toll, adding: "The discussion was, 'Let's not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things.'"

While Anthony plans to spend more time with his family, he is tempted to follow the rest of the band in getting involved with new musical ventures.

He added to America's Rolling Stone magazine: "I'm just home, hanging out with this really cool little kid, learning how to surf. But I'm starting to get just a little bit of a tingle that it would be nice to start thinking about songs and pieces of music. But just pieces."
