Just when we thought that romance was well and truly dead there might just be be a light at the end of that very long, dark and uneventful tunnel.FemaleFirst caught up with Hollyoaks’ stunning Roxanne McKee to find out why we should fight to keep that spark alive!
Why do you think men are becoming less romantic?

I don’t think we can blame men really, its just the modern world we live in, we are all far too busy and are constantly on the go. It is not a deliberate move; it is just the way we have evolved.

What do you think is the most romantic thing a man can do?

I don’t believe there is one ‘most romantic’ act that a guy can do, I think it is all about the couple in question which totally differs. It’s about you thinking about the person you are with and doing something tailored and thoughtful for them.

What is the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for you?

Ohhh, there is a quite a few actually! Once my boyfriend and I had a bit of a row and I stormed off to the hairdressers. When I came out of the salon, it was pouring with rain, my hair was getting ruined and then he was just standing there with a massive bunch of flowers – it was so sweet!

Another great one – I really love surfing and had also been saying for ages how I wanted to go to Portugal and my boyfriend surprised me with the most amazing surfing holiday to Portugal. The fact that it was a complete surprise too made it so much better.

So many relationships lose their spark after a while and the relationship can turn into a routine, how can we stop that from happening?

I think the key is random acts of kindness! Those spontaneous romantic acts that you don’t need to think about – just do them! Cooking a nice meal, surprising them with tickets to see their favourite band, a picnic, any of those things, it doesn’t have to cost the world either.

What can we do to get some romance back in our lives before it's too late and we throw in the towel?

Women really just need to step up and take the initiative when it comes to getting some romance back – don’t be afraid, anything you fancy doing or saying (within reason – you don’t want to scare people!) just do it – and always always be receptive romance, if you are open to it, you are more likely to get it.

Your character Louise is a very headstrong woman who won't take anything less than the best, how can we make sure that us 'normal' women get that too?

Well I think if you want the best, then you have to go out and get it, you can’t just sit about waiting. If you see or know someone you really like, then just take the plunge and make the first move.

Would you ever leave Hollyoaks and what would you like to do afterwards?

Well yes, I will leave one day, I am not going to still be there when I am an old lady! I would love to do anything involving a good strong character, whether its in film, TV or theatre. “My dream role’s already been taken by Keira Knightley in Pride and Prejudice – growing up I really wanted to be Lizzie Bennett. I am too tired to do another soap!

Who do you get along with most on set and are any of the cast just like (or nothing like) the characters they play?

I get on with so many of the cast, like Ashley Taylor-Dawson, Jamie Lomas, Jenny Metcalfe, Loui Batley, Carley Stenson, Leah Hackett – we go out and have great fun.

Helen Pearson and Jimmy McKenna are fantastic fun and so unlike their characters – they have so much energy, more than any of the younger cast. Jimmy has everyone laughing so hard, especially with his singing!

Finally, would you ever go out with someone like Warren?

No! He is a murderer!
