Russell Brand In Fred Remake

Russell Brand has agreed to star in a remake of 'Drop Dead Fred'.

The British comedian will play Rik Mayall's character in the adaptation of the 1991 cult hit.

The original film - which saw Phoebe Cates as a woman who loses her job and her husband during her lunch hour, before returning home and reuniting with her imaginary childhood friend - was a commercial and critical flop.

Despite this, Universal Studios has decided to remake it, casting Brand in the title role.

The new script will be penned by 'Land of the Lost' writer Dennis McNicholas. Marc Platt from 'Wanted; will produce the project.

No other casting details have yet been released.

2009 looks like being a busy movie-making year for the funnyman.

He is set to star in a remake of 1981 comedy 'Arthur', 'Get Him to the Greek' - a spin-off of his hit movie 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' - and a movie adaptation of 'The Tempest'.
