McLachlan: 'I Make Light of Divorce'

Sarah Mclachlan has learned to "make light" of her divorce from husband Ashwin Sood and move forward with her life after spending years blaming herself for the marriage breakdown.

McLachlan separated from the Canadian drummer in 2008 after 11 years of marriage and is only now starting to open up about the painful split.

She tells Spinner, "Coming to terms with the fact that my marriage was a failure was devastating and very difficult. I blamed myself for a lot of things. It took me a very long time to get over it."

And although the I Will Remember You hitmaker admits dealing with the heartache was a struggle, she insists music and her daughters India and Taja were the source of her strength.

She adds, "I have amazing friends, great family and two kids, so I just got out of bed everyday and kept moving forward. I'm not one to sit and wallow. I would rather figure out a way around so I can move past it and be at peace with things.

"I don't like bad feelings gnawing away at me... (And) apparently (there's) a bit of a (divorce) epidemic, so I just make light of it."
