Shia LaBeouf has revealed that from an acting point of view it was a 'blessing' that Megan Fox does not appear in Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

The actress left the project last year and was replaced by Rosie Huntington Whiteley - who will be making her big screen debut with the movie.

And while LaBeouf enjoyed working with Fox on the previous two movies he believed that there was no story arc for them.

Speaking to E Online the actor said: "I love Megan. She was great in the movies she was in... fun to work with, great energy, great personality.

"But it's kind of a blessing that she wasn't in this movie... selfishly.

"In the second movie, [Sam and Mikaela] became one character. There was no arc. There was no room for Sam to be heroic. They were sharing the same experience."

LaBeouf returns to the role of Sam Witwicky this week for the third film Dark of the Moon, which sees Michael Bay back to direct.

The film is the third in the highly successful franchise and sees Huntington-Whiteley, John Malkovich and Patrick Dempsey all join the cast.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is released 29th June.
