Simpsons creator Matt Groening has defended a controversial Muslim storyline.

In an upcoming episode of the cartoon sitcom, Homer Simpson accuses his Muslim neighbours of blowing up a shopping mall.

Naďve Homer reveals his ignorance for Islam after the family is invited over for dinner, and he confuses Allah for “Oliver” and the holy book The Koran for “The Corona”.

However, the donut-loving dad is later shown that his accusations are incorrect, when it turns out the father of the Muslim family is in fact a demolition man, and not a terrorist.

A spokesperson for Britain’s The Islamic Cultural Centre & The London Central Mosque however dismissed the episode altogether, telling newspaper The Daily Star, “I hope Muslims take no notice of the show.”

Groening has however slammed any accusations of racism on the show. He defended his beloved Simpsons saying, “Cartoons deal in stereotypes. We try to be sensitive.”
