Cliff Richard Opens Up About Lovelife.... Sir Cliff Richard has spoken out about his lovelife - revealing intimate details of his romances in a new book.

The star's sexuality has long been the subject of speculation, and Richard continually refuses to confirm or deny rumours he is gay.

But he has now opened up about his previous relationships - insisting there were two occasions in his life where he came close to getting married.

The 67-year-old admits he considered proposing to his first love, dancer Jackie Irving, and also to tennis star Sue Barker nearly two decades later.

But the Living Doll hitmaker has no regrets about never walking down the aisle, and is glad he has a companion in close friend John McElynn - a former Catholic priest who now shares his home.

He writes in his new autobiography, My Life, My Way, "John and I have over time struck up a close friendship. He has also become a great companion, which is great because I don't like living alone - even now.

"People often make the mistake of thinking that only marriage equals happiness. I may suddenly meet someone and feel differently but right now I don't think marriage would enhance my happiness."
