Taye Diggs was born with 12 fingers

The Private Practice actor, who is married to Glee star Idina Menzel, underwent surgery as a child in order to remove the extra digits.

Doctors removed the extra finger from each hand, in a procedure requested by his parents to avoid the potential ridicule he would face as he grew up.

He said: "I know you guys are thinking that I'm kidding."

But Diggs thinks that the extra fingers could have been useful:"As a child, I had an extra digit on each hand, and I remember my mom told me, they asked her if she wanted to let the digit grow or to remove it, and they removed it - but it could have been really handy."
