A Knight to remember

4 months ago 26th Jul 08:15

'The Dark Knight' is, without a doubt, the most highly-anticipated movie of the year so far.

Not only does it see Christian Bale reprise his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne, it also sees the late actor Heath Ledger star as villain The Joker.

Following Heath's accidental death in January due to a prescription drugs overdose, discussion of his performance as the maniacal Joker has reached fever pitch. His role is being hailed not only as the best version of The Joker - but one of the best characterisations of all time.

And he certainly doesn't disappoint.

From the first time he appears in the film, to the very last, his crazed eyes and constantly terrifying smile strike horror in viewers and leaves them shaken.

While Heath's turn as The Joker is almost guaranteed to garner him a posthumous Oscar, it is by no means the only brilliant performance in a film packed with heavyweight actors including Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart.

Christian is on top form as Batman - returning to the role with vigour and bringing an omnipresent charm to Batman's alter-ego, Bruce Wayne.

"With these films, I feel like we've gone back to Batman's roots," he said. "When I've spoken with friends of creator Bob Kane, they've always told me that Bob meant this to be a very dark character. He always [felt original Batman actor] Adam West did well, but that he was spoofing the character.
