Dark Knight Holds on to US Box Office Top Spot

4 months ago 28th Jul 15:09

New Batman movie the Dark Knight continues to break box office records as it speeds through the $300 million mark in just ten days.

The film retains the top spot at the box office after it's second weekend on release grossing a further $75 million to take it's domestic total to $314 million.

This surpasses the previous record set by the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie Dead Man's Chest which passed $300 million in sixteen days back in 2006.

The film looks set to overtake Iron Man as the biggest financial hit of 2008.

There were only two other new entries in the chart as Will Ferrell's new comedy Step Brothers entered at number two.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe has performed below what was expected grossing just over $10 million in it's opening weekend entering the chart at number four.

Mamma Mia! slipped down from two to three and Journey to the Centre of the Earth dropped one place to round off the top five.
