Prosecutors hope to prove that Simpson has a history of lying about his money to prevent Fred Goldman from getting the settlement.

District Attorney David Roger told the judge on Tuesday (23Sep08): "It (Cook's testimony) establishes his (Simpson's) motive, his common scheme of plan and his intent."

But Simpson's lawyers are adamant Cook's evidence will only remind the jury that the former sports star was once tried for murder, reports the New York Post's gossip column PageSix.

Attorney Yale Galanter says, "We think the only value is for the prejudicial effect. He (Cook) could say something that could cause a mistrial."

The trial continues.
