The Whip Gig Review

3 months ago 12th May 15:21

A lot of electronic music can be too repetitive and primal but with The Whip you are always guaranteed a more traditional arrangement of verse/chorus/verse with genuinely interesting lyrics. Add to this the fact that rather than prerecording much of the music and playing it through laptops and mixing desks The Whip actually play most of their music live on stage.

The band battled mercilessly through the heat with energetic renditions of ‘Divebomb’ and ‘Fire’, a truly euphoric live version of ‘Save My Soul’ and before finishing with a searing performance of ‘Trash’.

The only time the band took their foot off the accelerator was to evacuate the wings when a cloud of smoke from one of their amps flooded the stage.

In short their music, with it’s classic performance and structure, stands apart from almost the rest of the electro genre. Even with melting equipment and evacuations from the stage, this is a hot band that are sure to go far.

The Whip’s debut album ‘X Marks Destination’ is out now. The Whip are touring across the country until the end of the month.
