Woody Harrelson is nursing a bruised ego following a biking accident outside the New York City theatre where his Broadway production Bullet For Adolf is showing.

And then I saw, 'Well, there's people there

The Hunger Games star was racing his assistant to The New World Stages theatre on Wednesday evening, when he swerved to avoid colliding with pedestrians and hit a tree.

He recalls, "I'm shooting down 49th street, the theatre is right there, New World Stages, and I was ahead of him, but I didn't want to look back, and (at) the last minute I decided I'd just jump the curb and come up right to the theatre door. And then I saw, 'Well, there's people there.' And I'm going at it quick... so the bike hits the curb and stops, and I keep going. "I went right into this tree, which was kind of conveniently placed, and just bear-hugged around the tree at probably 20 miles-an-hour.

"And people were standing all around like, 'You OK?' And I'm just embarrassed, I'm like, 'I'm fine, I'm fine.'"
